Sculpting Nicole was a pleasure, but her hair presented a challenge. It had a presence of its own and gradually became the focus of the piece. As I worked, I began to see it as a kind of shifting ocean, which led me to experiment with the blue patina—something that felt right for capturing that sense of movement and energy, and of a far-seeing gaze full of thoughts.
