Echoes of time

Echoes of time depicts a male figure in his late 30s. It is a study in contrasts—showing signs of strength as well as softness, with a slight paunch and relaxed posture that speaks to a life lived without pretence and the inevitable enshrined suppressed feelings and traumas.

I wanted to capture the subtle play of light and shadow hinting at what lies beneath the skin and the emotions that radiate from within, to give the piece a sense of quiet dignity and a natural beauty that stands apart from the societal pressures of aging gracefully. As such, it serves as a reminder to accept that the paths our lives take, quite literally shapes us into echoes of time passed.

Echoes of Time was created in 2015 over a period of ten weeks — more than 150 hours with a live model, it is a beautiful piece that reflects the high level of observation, discipline, and sensitivity that forms the backbone of the classical figurative art tradition.

It was my first time dedicating this level of attention to a single figure, and the result is this torso, with its finely resolved surface that balances anatomical clarity with a sense of quiet strength. The polished finish carries both the pride of completion and the exhaustion of persistence — something many sculptors will recognize.

The integrated base allows the piece to stand freely: on a plinth, in a niche, or directly on the floor.
The photographs show the artist’s proof in plaster. It will cast beautifully in bronze and may also be carved in marble.
