Thelonius
Small bronze portrait of Thelonius.
This is a crop from a larger sculpture of artist Thelonius Stokes done while he was a student at The Florence Academy of Art.
Thelonius came into the studio and took a pose on the model stand that was very commanding and yet also introspective and vulnerable, he was wearing his large winter coat and the initial idea was to make a sculpture inspired by Rodin´s ´Balzac´. In the end the portrait was powerful enough to exist on its own despite it´s small scale.
