The Philosopher was chosen as front page illustration for the June 2024 issue of the magazine The Connoisseur, who also interviewed me for their upcoming artists section.
The model for this portrait is Michael, a painting student who returns to Florence every year to continue learning the craft from teachers at The Florence Academy of Art and beyond. I met him during Friday evening drinks in the academies courtyard and immediately saw the potential for a great portrait. He was obliging and sat for me for a few sessions and the result, as you may see resembles an Ancient Greek philosopher, thus the title.
