Lady Augusta Gregory
Maquette for Trinity College Dublin Art Collections Long Room Bust Competition.
This small maquette of Lady Augusta Gregory (1852-1932) was part of my tender for Long Room of the Old Library female scholar bust competition, Trinity College Dublin.
I was inspired to make a maquette of Lady Gregory as I grew up in a theatrical environment with a mother who wrote and performed all her life, and a great grandmother born in Ireland. The meeting of these two worlds felt very familiar to me and I could appreciate the importance of this woman’s contribution to Irish cultural nationalism.
Despite this sense of affinity with Lady Gregory, in the end I was commissioned to make the Ada Lovelace bust while artist Guy Reid made the Lady Gregory bust.
